Ibrahim Yasir

Ibrahim Yasir was a member of the IT unit at the Maldivian President's Office who produced the digital font files for Faruma and A Reethi in 2002. Musthafa Mohamed designed Faruma's letterforms, and the head of IT, Ahmed Asif, assigned Yasir to the project. Yasir, who was trained in IT, drew and adjusted the glyphs as Mohamed directed, working at his own workstation, and the first usable version was ready in about three months.

The first stage of the font was named A_Reethi; after further refinement it was released as A_Faruma and then Faruma. The font files credit Yasir as creator, with calligraphy by Musthafa Mohamed (and, for A Reethi, also by Abdul Sattar and Abdulla Waheed) and assistance from Ahmed Asif. Faruma came to be widely used for official government documents in the Maldives.
